What will your child gain?
‘Forest Schools’ are a Scandinavian concept and were introduced into Britain in the 1990’s. We introduced the concept to Sunny Brow because of its excellent reputation for developing children’s self esteem and their speech and language skills. Also, we have the most amazing grounds – including a small, mature woodland.
Primarily, Forest Schooling has a wonderful effect on children’s social and emotional development. They become more confident and independent and they learn to manage the risks they encounter (in a supported environment).
They have time to follow their own interests and to become engrossed in what they’re doing. They have the opportunity to build dens and climb trees – all those experiences that children should have.
As the year progresses they learn to use tools – and have their snacks cooked on an open fire. They learn about the outdoor environment – about birds and trees, flowers and insects. They experience and understand the weather and seasons.
